“Mian Mithu, Mian Mithu – Choori khao gay?” still remains one of my favorite childhood memories to date. I remember the easily fascinated 5-year old me watching my aunt’s Alexandrine parakeet with my eyes wide open. Waiting for it to open its bright red beak and utter “Mian Mithu, Mian Mithu – Choori khao gay?” Hearing these words would make the tiny me clap in excitement! It was because of “Mian Mithu” that my aunt’s house was my all-time favorite summer spot. My mother would bring me watermelon every now and then, which I’d share with my Mithu and for me, this was the perfect kind of midsummer reverie!
It’s been years today since Mithu succumbed to the clutches of death. And the memory of him long forgotten up until I laid eyes on Ali Xeeshan’s collection Mithu!
The collection Mithu by Ali Xeeshan is the perfect blend of art and couture. The purpose of the theme of this collection is to pay homage to the jubilant era of our childhood. The talented designer has played with pure summer hues in this collection and has looked to parrots or should we say Mithu’s to draw inspiration. The collection is so called because each outfit has summery prints and patterns that will leave you entranced. The apparels are a marriage between contemporary dress designing and traditional embroidery.

This spring-summer collection is a true spectacle of craftsmanship and traditional handiwork. Each outfit is artfully embellished using gota work, tila work, zardozi along with sequins and pearls chatta (spread). The dresses are also adorned with carefully crafted floral motifs and tassels that signify the importance of spring-tide. Keeping the outfits traditional yet trendy, Ali Xeeshan has paired some of the ensembles with embellished net or organza dupattas.
Handmade parrot dummies have been artfully incorporated in the shoot in order to capture the essence of the theme. Ali Xeeshan has used watermelons to add a twinge of summer to his shoot. As an emphasis on the “spring-summer” based theme, every model has been given a slice of watermelon to carry in the shoot and we love how this collection makes us feel oddly reminiscent of our childhood summers. The color palette too ranges from summery vibrant hues to slightly softer monotones. All we can say is it’s a complete package!
The silhouettes include embroidered lehengas and cropped cholis with structured full-length sleeves with round necklines (there are few designs which have a sleeveless option as well) and sarees, which are a perfect blend of elegance and chic at the same time. Fortunately, for all the hunks out there, Mithu also has some masculine apparels such as raw silk kurtas, embroidered waist coats and turbans paired with plain beige kurtas and chooridars.
